WTB: Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS

Figured I'd put the call out here first. I'm finally ready to get the 70-200 f/2.8L IS!

Found some recent listings in here but they have sold... and it doesn't seem like too many people get rid of this guy. :wink If you've got one in excellent condition that you're considering letting go, please PM me or reply here with photos and more info!

Would prefer that you have a presence here on DGrin or that someone here who does can recommend you. :thumb

Good luck with this. These are extremely hard to come by. I was lookin awhile ago, no such luck. At the price they are going for used, you might as well get a new one with all the warranty and what not. The cheapest I've seen this lens used for was about $1300-$1400 for at least a year old, while a new one on B&H is $1699. So for an extra $300-$400 you can get a brand new, garuntee on the product, warranty, now where its been and how it's been used (not at all), and everything else.

But, good luck on the used if that's your budget, that's my next lens for sure. My dream lens...

I would say you can trust those who sell these on here and FredMiranda...

People who bought such an expensive lens that doesn't frequently have issues like say the 24-70 (for example with Auto Focus) means that if it looks good and they are reputable you should feel good about it.

I have been toying with selling mine and downgrading to the NON-IS version... Just to help me upgrade from 30D to a 1D2N but not sure about it yet.

So... Trust people... look on fred miranda i just saw a bunch when i looked right now.

Of course. It's always good to ask.

Might want to wait a little bit too. Canon usually has a rebate going, it'll go away for a little bit, then come back for awhile. Brings the lens down to $1574 with free shipping sometimes. But if you need it now, then go for it.

It's an amazing lens. That followed by the 24-70 2.8 and selling my 24-105 and I'll be set. I've been wanting the 70-200 2.8 IS for like...a year now? It's amazing beyond all amazingness...

I've been hemming and hawing since I posted, and I've gotten SO many opinions... and most people are convincing me to just buy it new. I'd rather not, but they're all so darn practical.

So, methinks B&H might get a chunka change from me tonight.

LUCKY! Totally jealous. Canon usually will put the lenses on sale every so often. Brings the $1699 price down to $1574 (ish) with free shipping usually too. So if you don't need it right now, might want to wait a little while, should be coming around again soon. But, if you just gotta have it now (as I tend to do), then you'll love it. And pre-congrats.

The thing is, I need it in time for wedding season... can I wait ride it out that long? I'll have to go look up when the rebates usually come out. I was thinking it wouldn't work in my favor...

I just bought a refurb from adorama.com and paid $1399 shipped. I threw a 3 year mack warranty on it for another $50. That is cheaper than I could find used. It is like new in every way to my eye short of the glossy red and white box. You might call them and inquire. I don't see it on the site any more.
