LR2 Lightroom - Does the Order of Tone Edits / Presets Matter?

Just to simplify this one, would a pic look the same if it was edited with "auto-tone", then "punch" as compared to "punch" and then "auto-tone"?
I could do some experiments but I'm mainly just wanting to see if the order that I edit the photo changes the end result.
Mostly I edit in order going down the right hand side - but sometimes I'll come back up to the top and redo or change something out of 'order'.
