Shooting old buildings & Asbestos

I enjoy shooting abandoned architecture and was only thinking about the health risks associated with asbestos and the health risks. Say if some building walls have been vandalized and smashed up and laying on the floor, is it risky spending even an hour or so in such places? I have been in a few buildings and from what I could tell the broken boards have been plaster board......but hard to tell in such places though not being a builder!

I would think that a building with asbestos would have signs saying to not enter "asbestos" and so on and would have to be removed by the land owner. That said...if you are going in a building that has lead paint (anything built before the 70's would most likely have lead paint somewhere) that can also be a hazard. If you uncertain about a building and think it will be a problem...then it would be best to wear appropriate clothing and a mask to protect yourself. Try not to stir up the dust.

My dad laid asbestos for years before they knew how dangerous it is. He is still alive and never got sick from asbestos...but some of his worker friends didn't have such luck.
