I've wanted to get a macro lens for a while (still do, the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 1:1) BUT, in the meantime I stumbled on a free Sigma 28-80 that has a macro feature at 80mm. So, I may as well learn technique while I save up the cash for the the equipment.

Here's a first go: No cropping, adjustments in LR

I think I have this lens, but have yet to use it. It came on a film camera that my cousin gave to me. I haven't used it yet as I have the Canon 100mm 2.8 macro, so a plastic ring mount slow focus 80mm 4.5 (?I think?) macro sigma lens just sits in my bag, as a just in case lens I suppose.

But after looking at your photo, i think I'm giving it less credit then it deserves. Wonderful color and detail. Great photo. Could be a little sharper though I think. What were your camera setting? Aperture, shutter speed, etc...

    Thanks Lisa!

Yep, that's how I got it too. I bought a Minolta film camera off Craigslist (because it came with another lens I wanted) so I consider everything else a freebee (including the film camera!). It's the Sigma 28-80 4/3.5-5.6 Macro. I didn't have high hopes for it but it's better than I thought and much better than nothing!

Thanks for the compliments - settings were: 1/200 at f/5.6; ISO 800; with external (bounce) flash. I agree about sharpness as well. I need to try another series with that subject but stop the lens down a bit and see if sharpness can improve.

    Well done ... Skippy
Thanks Skippy! You're exactly right. If I'm not able to get that macro lens soon, I see extension tubes in my more immediate future! rolleyes1.gif
