    Thanks Lisa :)

No tricks - just a lot of practice. :)
Using flash will give sharper looking shots because of the higher contrast, plus I tend to use fairly open apertures to avoid diffraction softening and then get the "missing" DOF back again using focus stacking.

    Nice series Brian.
Glad to see you starting to get the critters back again, although this means it will start slowing down from my end. Grrrrrrrrrrr

    Thanks for looking and commenting.

Tutorial on focus stacking here http://www.wonderfulphotos.com/articles/macro/focus_stacking/.
Basically it's taking a series of shots at different focus depths and combining them into one pic.

The wings just don't look strong enough to lift the size of the body and head of those Drones headscratch.gif they're boofy looking aren't they.
I wonder if the smaller Hover Flies just get out of the way at the sight of them rolleyes1.gif

Love the second one Brian clap.gif ...awesome work .... Skippy :D

Thanks for the comments Skippy- Agree re the wings but these look slightly more sensible than bumble bee wings :)

Yes these hovers will sometimes bounce other hovers out the way but not as bad as some of the territorial flower bees.
