I am looking to get a lap top to show pictures in my studio. Can anyone recommend a brand, and what functions will make the pictures look great.

Personally I would prefer to look at my photos on a large screen not a laptop......unless you go for one of the HP Desktop replacements with a 22" screen......but for one of those you could get at least 2 desktops and a a couple of refurbed NEC or other 24-30" IPS monitor..........
I had to look at some portraits of my BLk Lab just before X-mas that my sister had taken and ridiculed the photog for wanting me to look at the "proofs" on a 15" laptop and it was not calibrated to boot.......did not tell him I was actually competition......so I paid for a price list you might say.:D

I would not go with the touch screen for fear of client with sticky fingers.....as in eating and not wshing hands and touching that precious screen......also why i recommend a desktop.....if a client crudes up a keyboad.....that is less than $10 to replace.....if they crude up a laptop.....you're out the whole computer while it gets fixed.........

But I do like the upper end HP models.....notthe HP/Compac models......so the Pavillion models are what I would suggest or upper end dell.........

Tiger Direct hasbeen having some great end of month sales also on both desktop and laptops............

    Good Luck

Just a quick stab in the dark: But...

How about a mini laptop (Dell, Acer, etc - $300.00) and a nice monitor for another $300?ne_nau.gif

I have the HP TX2000 series touch screen laptop.65 I love my laptop but it is not ideal for photo editing or viewing.
it has plenty of power to edit my RAW files coming out of the rebel Xt but the colours are less then ideal.

Ideal setup is to plug my laptop into my 22" desktop monitor then I essentially have a tablet which displays the picture I am working on, on the tablet. This setup works nicely for me.

The other issue I have with this laptop is the extremely glossy screen makes it basically useless ouside during the day.
