Mid winter bottle rocket contest

I was at a bottle contest held by our astronomy and model rocket club yesterday. We held it on the sea ice in a bit of wind - which meant I have a lot pictures of rockets going anywhere but up :lol3
Mine also spun out the second it was released so a DQ for me. There's not a mark on the rocket so I might keep it and try it out in more favourable conditions
The winner was the smallest rocket competing, our big bottles couldn't get anywhere near it
Anyway, pictures!
This one's sort of up-ish.
That one went sideways...
This one decided to run away.
And here's the only rocket I've ever seen turn back into the frame.
A couple of splatter shots
The kid in the orange jacket actually placed second :thumb
And finally, I've got a landscape for you:
And a portrait:
So there we are, a well spent day
Tell me what you think!

I think you captured the activity nicely with many very cool fun shots.

Thanks very much
Thanks, Justine
Yeah, we got lucky with the sunshine, just not so much with the wind
We shared the ice with at least a dozen kite-skiers who seemed to be perfectly happy with that too :giggle
Thank you Ben! Why not hold an event like this yourself?
