Should I leave on/off 'RGB' mode on my monitor when calibrating?

Hi All,
Just bought a Samsung 997df monitor and Spyder3 Pro calibration device. The CRT monitor is rather bright and I went into the controls and saw that 'sRGB Mode' was turned off. So I turned it on and the brightness of the screen immediately dropped. Considerably. If I leave it in sRGB, I cannot change brightness or contrast. The manual doesn't state anywhere the benefit of using this built in Samsung sRGB mode....
Should I leave it in this mode? Would it be more accurate especially if I'm about to calibrate it with the Spyder?
