My oldest is graduating grade 9 today, and I think I will take my camera tonight. Now I'm tryig to decide which lens I should bring - the 85mm f1.8 or the 17 - 85 mm USM. Its a gorgeous sunny day, and the lights in the gym should all be on - won't need fast shutter...so I think I'll take the 17 - 85 so I have a bit of width. See, you talked me into it!

bring both, and i suspect you'll be happier with the 85mm 1.8 ... i'd keep it on f/2.8 ... you should be fine!

Well, thanks guys. I did take both, and did use the 85mm almost exclusively. Only used the 17 - 85 for a group shot that I may not keep.

We were late due to the date being held up in traffic (or doing make up, we're not sure). And the ceremony then ran on for a very long time. It was very late twilight by the time things were done, and I had a very impatient subject. Got a shot or two, but he wasn't prepared for me to want to change settings, so the shutter speed was way too slow. Not sure if they are workable, but I am going to try.

    Thanks for the advice
