Great shots, Dan. We don't have those beautiful birds in Florida.

    Great capture Dan
I love those guys, one of the things I miss most about the desert. I had a huge flock that I tended at a nature preserve they were so entertaining.

Thus your avatar. I love these guys too, especially when there's 10 of them in a line crossing the street with their parents. The newborns, as you know are the size of a golf ball. Thanks VWthumb.gif

    Very nice, Dan.thumb.gifclap

I'd be tempted to brighten the color on the bird a bit and maybe darken the background a tad. Not to say the shots are not fine as they are...'cause they are real good!:D

When I get real good ones my creative juices start flowing.mwink.gif

Thanks. They are tough little critters to capture Steve. I have found shooting from my car works best, as they are used to them.

Dan, those are great!! clap.gif I know how hard it is to get a good shot of these quail. I love thier uniqueness and regal look. The babies are so cute -will try for some images of them this spring.

They are beautiful...the photos are beautiful. It is rare to see a photograph of G Quail much less with this detail! To capture these have been my challenge for years! They are my favorite bird in AZ! I never thought of trying to capture them from the car. Usually a covey flutters up in my face and I cannot even hold myself steady. :D

    Very nice!!!

I was driving back from my hawk shoot with my camera in the passenger seat and 420 mm of glass on it when I saw these guys. They were fine as long as I stayed in the car. If you are on foot they are gone in a flash. This was my first time I got good shots of them.

Thanks everybody for your kind words.

Were I worked we had quail around the vehicle test area and when I was out shooting pictures I'd try and sneak up on the quail for a quick shot. Never even got close and never once got a shot worth keeping! Good job catching the elusive little critters, Dan.

Thanks Doug. I'd love to capture the babies all in a row, but that might be close to impossible.

In the office area where I worked the windows are tinted with a reflective tint and looked out onto empty land. The assorted birds including the quail would get up on the outside ledge to pick bugs and also to stare at "the other bird" in the window. Somewhere I have a shot of three Gambel's Quail from a foot or so away staring at their own reflection but it's through a dirty, tinted window so artistically it isn't much. Still, it was cool to be able to get up close for a look at critters.

Best of luck catching momma quail and all the babies in a row! Bigger lens fro Christmas, maybe? thumb.gif

I have a big enough lens, but they move so quickly and appear almost at random.

Great capture with #2! The first seems a bit blurry to me but maybe it's my eyes. The second is crisper with a nice pose and colors. Love your work, Dan!

Awesome quail captures, Dan. I have tons of shots of them, but none this good. They're like pigeons up here. Good eatin' too. Seriously. Some of my neighbors shoot them and serve them for finger food at parties. :eat

We have a restaurant here in Tucson that serves quail, although I do not know what kind. They are fabulous.

Ya gotta shoot these guys from your car to get good shots Joel.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
