For waterfallrich, let's gather 'round and sing the new member theme song.

Sung to the tune of "The Brady Bunch"
Here's the story of some lovely photos
that were taken by a great photographer.
All of them had great contrast, like the others,
    The latests ones in raw.

Here's the story, of the Dgrin forum,
Who was busy with members of it's own,
They were members, talking all together,
    Yet they were all alone.

Till the one day when the photographer joined this forum
And they knew it was much more than a hunch,
That this group must somehow form a family.
That's the way we all became the Dgrin Bunch.

    The Dgrin Bunch,
    The Dgrin Bunch,

That's the way we became the Dgrin Bunch.

do do do do dooo dooo dooo dooo do
So welcome Rich, we look forward to having you as a new member!

I would also like to say welcome. I visited the site and it is really worth spending some time. As a native of New Jersey who moved to California 20 years ago I really miss the creeks, waterfalls, sounds and smells that come to mind when seeing this kind of work.

    regards,

    Gary

Welcome to DG... I would say it's a great place to learn... However, it looks like you are on top of the game. thumb.gif Wonderful shots. I am trying to capture some falls... Maybe next week.

Andy, if you keep finding all these WONDERFUL photographers, no one will want to even look at my pictures anymore :cry Well, maybe to learn what not to do lol3.gif

    Thank you!
Thanks for the very kind welcome Andy and everyone. Shay, that song is too much. I'll admit I was humming the Brady Bunch as I was reading the lyrics umph.gif

As you may have guessed, waterfalls are my favorite subject. Wildflowers are next in line - I've seen quite a few varieties growing around here in the past few years. I moved to the Asheville, NC area 2 years ago just for the waterfalls and the other beautiful scenery in western NC, eastern Tennessee, and upstate South Carolina and Georgia. If you ever get a chance to visit, you really should! Unfortunately, the job situation in this area is horrible and I recently started a job that works 12 hour swing shifts. It's a good company, tho. I have more days off than my last job, but have less time to sit in front of the computer. On most of my days off, I'm in the woods thumb.gif

I do carry one ND filter, but my filter of choice is a polarizer. It does wonders for reducing glare on the wet rocks around the falls, creeks, and even the foliage in the scene. Here's an example I've used before. The 1st is no polarizer, the 2nd is with one. The only post processing is unsharp mask:
    25725595.unpolarized1.jpg

    25725603.polarized1.jpg

I prefer shooting on medium overcast days and most of the time, the polarizer is enough to get the 1/4 second to 1/2 second shutter speeds I like to blur the water. On brighter days, I'll add the ND on top of the polarizer.

Thanks again - I look forward to seeing images from around the world, sharing a few of mine, and learning from everyone!
