Smugmug going to wrong IP address?

I haven't been able to get on Smugmug all day long, since Thursday night. But I can VPN into my office PC and get to it from there.

When I lookup cdn.smugmug.com from my office PC I get the following IP address:

a539.b.akamai.net [63.217.20.43]

However, from my home PC I get:

a539.b.akamai.net [97.17.111.26]

I can get to www.smugmug.com [208.79.45.23] from either computer, but of course none of the images work from home because they're served from cdn.smugmug.com.

Did Smugmug change its IP address bank? If so, I guess I just have to wait until the DNS cache decides to update itself....or join flickr =P

When I ping cdn.smugmug.com, I get [128.241.218.24] (yet another address).

I think this is how edge caching via Akamai works. You get a different IP address depending upon where you are in the network (and how the routing is set up for your ISP). The idea is to serve the content from the closest location (in terms of network topology, not necessarily physical distance) so you get the images faster.

Are you seeing an actual problem with your site? Or just wondering why cdn.smugmug.com is different from different locations?

Yep...it's been down ever since Thursday night, not serving up any content. I can get to Smugmug users' sites through their domain names, but not through their name.smugmug.com address.

Could your work network be blocking smugmug.com? That happens in some companies.

No, I can get to it from work, not from home. I'm using Comcast. I can get to every other site, including Flickr, Photoshop, Picassa, Photobucket, etc., so it's doubtful Comcast would be singling out Smugmug to block it.

    Again, I can get to domain-hosted accounts (i.e. http://www.markchapmanphotography.com), but not *.smugmug.com (i.e. mannos.smugmug.com, dgrin.smugmug.com, etc.)

Then, I would suggest you contact Smugmug support directly and ask them to help troubleshoot.
