Lumix LX3 Availability
I've been shopping around for a Lumix LX3 for the past week or so and it seems to be out of stock or back-ordered. Adorama, B&H, and the fist two Amazon sellers (Computer Brain & OneCall..who only had LX2's in stock) don't have it in stock. I've found it in one retail store here in NYC but they wanted $40 over what their website sold it for and only wanted to play the tired old accessory game.
So...is this camera _that_ popular? Or is there speculation that Panasonic is getting ready to release a new model? From all I can tell it seems like the perfect combination of features (for me) at its size and cost. I know that it's comparable to the Canon G9/10 but those are too big for me to want to carry every day.
Anyone have thoughts on where I can find it for a competitive price or if there is a new model coming out soon?
It's my first post here, hello everyone, thanks for any input you might have.

Llahbocaj, welcome to the Digital Grin.
Amazon does have them available for ridiculous prices so I'm guessing that it is very popular. It just became available late last year so I doubt if a replacement is coming too soon.
Adorama ill allow you to place an order and they will charge your card and ship when the camera is available. Right now they are asking $430USD which is probably not too bad.

In case anyone is watching anxiously I went to Adorama today because I was in the neighborhood and after being out of stock in the warehouse and store just a few days ago...mysteriously three had appeared in the store. There are two left (silver) if anyone is looking.
enjoy.
I bought a Panasonic LX3 about 4 months ago. It's been a really good camera - I wouldn't hesistate reccomending it - the only caveat is it doesnt have a big zoom - apart from that it is great. I love the retro style and the manual features. Some of my test shots are on http://half.tone.im

Here's a tidbit as posted on the following site dedicated to the LX3:
http://www.lx3-photography.com/2009/02/lx3-panasonic-backorder-info.html
This is an excerpt from a supposed response from Panasonic Customer Support back in February regarding LX3 availability. Actually, not much info is given in this rather vague boiler-plate type of response from the company:
"Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Panasonic DMCLX3K.....
We do not have any data on when the DMCLX3K will be available at retailers in the USA. As you have noted the camera is backordered and we waiting for the camera to be resupplied in the USA and at our on line store.
We do not have an ETA on the DMCLX3K in the USA.
Thank You,
Panasonic Consumer Support"
The extended lack of product in the market makes me wonder if they've put some sort of manufacturing hold on the product due to some defect (barrel distortion issue?), or if it's a component availability problem.
