Getting domain name

I was wondering--if my current website has the attachment *****.smugmug.com and I get my own domain to eliminate the ".smugmug" portion of my website, what will happen if someone has one of my old business cards and types in my old ".smugmug" website address? Will smugmug redirected to my new website?

Hope this question make sense.

Let me know--I'm considering making the switch to having my own domain name.
