hello everyone

i'm a new smugmug customer, and am pretty happy so far. i solved all my doubts via yr friendly tips, so thank you. however i've come accross something for which i was unable to find advice in the forum: when i recently ran a test search on an alternative browser (camino), google showed a different sinopsis than the one it shows on firefox. while the firefox search will have the 1st words on my custom header (which is what i wanted), the camino search result comes w/ a sort of standard smugmug advertisement. would anyone have any idea on why that is and on how to solve it? this is the text that shows up: The ultimate in photo sharing. Easily create online photo albums. Share, store, organize and print.

thanks in advance for yr help
best wishes

    Hi Tiago and welcome to Dgrin! wave.gif

    I'm not sure I can follow on what the problem is. Could you post specific the links that show up in search along with the description that you see? Maybe screenshots of what you see would help, too.

    hi sebastian
    thanks for yr offer to help
    here's what is now showing as my site description when i run a google search for my name (originally only happened when using camino, but now happens on firefox too):

    Tiago Carneiro da Cunha - arquivo online com fotos em alta ...
    The ultimate in photo sharing. Easily create online photo albums. Share, store, organize and print.
    www.tiagocarneirodacunha.net/gallery/7458287_M2UBq/1/481140101_shY5k - 22k -

    notice how the main body is composed of a standard smugmug ad, instead of the text on my header, as it when i first ran test searches a month or so ago. would u know how to solve that? seems very unfair ... after all the google descriptions are pretty important ...

    thank u in advance for yr help
    best wishes

    The descriptive information that shows up as the result of a search comes from your bio box. You can see an example by doing a search on my name (Denise Goldberg).

    If you don't want the text to show, you can hide it with CSS.

    Add this to your CSS:
    #myBioText {
        display: none;
    }

    Then at the beginning of your bio box:
    <div id="myBioText">
    all of your bio text here
    ending with
    </div>

    This text won't show up as a search result immediately. You will need to wait until the search engines crawl the site again.

    Gallery search results would display a snippet from the gallery description. Just add a gallery description and then that would show instead of the default text on Google when they update your site the next time.

    What Denise said, is also true, but I would say it applies only for search results going to your homepage.

    That's absolutely correct. If you search for my name, you will find both variations in the search results.

    So it's really important to add a description to your bio box and to add descriptions to your galleries.

    Sorry for any confusion that I may have caused.

    thank you both for yr help! much appreciated

    i would like take this opportunity to suggest to the smugmug programmers to get rid of this feature (the automatic smugmug ads when there is no gallery description), since i don't think it is of any real benefit to the service, and definitely of no benefit to the pro users.

    as i said initially, i am very happy w/ the services provided: the powerful photo albums and the many customization options make for a very professional looking result with a very competitive price. and so I find it more than fair to have the 'powered by smugmug' credit on the site. i don't think smugmug needs the extra advertising in the search results, and it definitely takes away from the 'professional' look to have one's site described on google as a generic photo-sharing service. and even though there's a solution to that, it is not immediate since it needs to wait for the next 'crawl'...

    thank you again for yr quick and helpful responses
    best wishes to all
