So I take my 40D w/70-200mm 2.8L out to the golf course to try and catch "The Moment of Contact." This is not easy to do. Especially when you have groups coming up behind you waiting and wanting to play through.

I'm shooting at pretty much 1/8000 to 1/6000 of second @ f2.8.

C&C welcome...

And this would be me about to hit the ball straight up. This is the only "Moment of Contact" caught this day. I will try again though...learned a lot.

nice attempt, you need a few tips?

your camera needs to be in burst mode, this will alow you to take a number of rames in succession.
shutter speed is important if you want the ball clean. experiment 1/3000, 1/4000 might be enough.
take a few bursts to get the timing down. start shooting when the golfer has the hands about chest high in the downswing.
look at your results, see how close you get and adjust your timing.

    good luck

the guy in the blue short has the classic "chicken wing" issue with left arm after contact in his irons. See how his arms is bent at the elbow? Robs a lot of power and promotes outside to inside swing path..meaning.. slices hehe. Funny that with the driver his left arm is straight after contact.
