Ugly Starling - First 400mm Shots

This past week I got an older Nikon 400mm f3.5 lens for a great price on Ebay. The lens is wonderful, but I've got to get a handle on using these long lenses. It's a challenge. This morning I worked on my technique with a tripod. Here are a few shots of an ugly Starling in my back yard.
Oh, I should say that both of these images were captured with the use of 1.4x teleconverter.
