Hi. I hope this is the right place to pose this question. I tried searching but was not finding what I was really looking for.

Basically, I have a TON of galleries on my site, some public and some private. I am trying to find if there is an easy way to generate a list of ALL my galleries with their cat->sub cat info so that I could then try to put them into an excel sheet or access file (that is my next goal).

Since its all digital and I am not dealing with negatives I don't have a hard copy type list of my pics. I know I have them backed up on here and on some external drives but I would love to have something that I could input new galleries into to keep it up to date with what I have on my smugmug account.

I hope that made sense. I tried googling this too and could not find anything that I thought would work for what is in my mind. I am just not sure if I relayed what I am thinking clear enough for others to understand.

Thanks!

As a Mac user Star*Explorer isn't available for me so when Denise pointed out this thread to me showing what is possible, I contacted Nikolai who developed it and asked for his help.

Well less than 24 hours later (14 actually) I have an A-Z list of all my SM galleries in html format with links - just what I wanted wings.gifbarbwings.gif

Thanks very much Nikolai, any chance of giving us Mac users a version please :-)

    Nic: Macs run native Windows app fine right now - see VMWare Fusion and Parallels. But nice of you to generate a listing for Caroline. :-}

Caroline: In the future both Mac and Windows (and Linux) users can try this:

    http://www.rudebadmood.com/smugdump/

You should be able to cut-and-paste the whole page into Word or Excel and remove the parts you don't need.

(I needed to get around to playing with phpSmug anyways, so this was my excuse.)

Oh I know, I have several customers who run S*E this way. But this setup has its gotchas and is definitely not cheap (since you need both emulator and windows itself)

Thank you Darryl, its always good to have useful tools, I certainly may have a future use for it and no doubt others will too, much appreciated.

Nikolai:- you did a great job, in a format exactly as I wanted it - thanks again.
What a great bunch of people there are on this forum :-)

I just stumbled upon this message thread while looking for something else...

The following tool is also available that will list either just public galleries or all galleries (public, unlisted, password protected) in several different formats, including CSV that can be used with Excel.

Any idea how I can then get that info into excell or is it just copy and paste?

    Thanks

One would think Microsoft would have made Excel smart enough to notice you are pasting in CSV formatted data and prompt to convert. The version I have (Excel 2007) doesn't seem to do that.

I see two ways to do it:

Option 1) Select the CSV data that is generated, paste it into a text editor and save as something.csv. Open this new file in Excel and Excel will automatically break it into columns.

Option 2) Copy the CSV data from the website and paste directly to Excel. Next go to the Data tab in Excel and Text to Columns. On step 1 make sure the pasted text is selected then on step 2 make sure the demiliter is set to comma. On step 3 you can either leave each column as general or change them to text. Finish and the data is now formatted into columns.
