We had a great time on Catalina:clap
It was kinda like LOST, Andy and I showed up in different time zones at the same time and in different places at the same time:scratch
Our fearless guide, Jack Baldelli
The institute
Us at the institute, Andy on the hill:barb
The bay near the institute, known as the Isthmus or Two Harbors.
Sunset the first night at Shark Harbor, a wonderful beginning:ivar
Each workshop takes on its own forte, Catalina was no different. The elements are not quite as bold as The Grand Canyon, but are no less dynamic photographically nor memorable. We did have much sun but an equal amount of clouds, making the in between light dynamic. In the morning we had clouds that broke in just the right manor to reveal the sun through small holes creating shafts of light. This next image was taken in my favorite location on the island, a Scrub Oak forest scattered with as many old dead skeletons as living trees. These made for telling stories of just how protected this island truly is. No one has used up these incredible trees for firewood or target practice, they still stand to tell the story of years under the sunny California skies.
And the long view
On the third day we drove out to Salte Verde Beach and found more Oaks on the way
Others taking in the Drama:barb
Following this shot, Jack led us down the steepest road I had ever driven, I am not joking:deal But the beach was amazing, covered in large tumbled rocks and patterns perfect for black and white.
And some color too....
As usual we had a wonderful time sharing ideas, stories, bad jokes, and creating memories.
I think I left my heart in Catalina:D

Looks like a good time.
My Gallery
I have spent about 15 days now bumping around the interior of the island and not only do I see something new every day but realize there are many more places to explore. Then there is the universe underwater as well.
I also know there were many more photos taken on this trip I hope all of you that were there find the time to add to this thread, as they say "bring it on":ivar

I also wanted to show you the pano we did Marc but posting it would not do it any justice.
I printed it out at 24" by 72" to see how it would turn out and I must say. I loved it. Thank you for your teachings during this workshop. I truly enjoyed them and now have them as part as my arsenal of photography weapons. Can't wait for the next workshop

incredible. i just love it...
and last to discover the thread! it was a great workshop - as usual. learned a lot, had a wonderful time, came home with a ton to process, and just starting that. here are a few G9's, of the road that our fearless leader had to drive down, with me trying hard to muffle screams. all the roads were challenging, but this was a day that will remain in my memory....
the ridge road and the final descent to the beach:
here are a few shots (5D MKII) of the first evening on the beach - more to come later:
and one next morning, sunrise in the cacti!:
