Ok, so this is what I've come up with for the book cover.
Now the simple question is have I completely lost the plot?

I'm not sure if the writing on the wheel adds or detracts.
I liked the gradient fill on the sky at midnight but I'm not so sure this morning.

So, open it or bin it?

Thanks as always for any c&c.

I agree that the words on the windmill are distracting. They aren't something you would expect to see there when looking at the windmill in person. Other than that, it is an interesting picture.

Definitely don't like the text on the spokes, but LOVE the photograph - very dramatic!

maybe just me, but I don't see the difference in these 2... but I like it a lot better without the words on the windmill. Much better!

    Thanks for the feedback Donna.
There is still writing on the wheel in #2, just a lot more subtle (perhaps too subtle).

Wow, and I used to be GOOD at those puzzles where you found the hidden object or what was different. Guess I am getting old...
    I think either would work.

    Thanks Donna.
I was trying for a "scratched in the wood" feel - obviously I failed :bash.
Subtlety never was my strong suit.

without writing looks great. I think the wheel being in the shadow and so dark you would not be able to see writing anyway. Even scratched in.
