sorting within galleries not working correctly

I noticed on at least two of my galleries that the sort feature was not working correctly after I uploaded to them. Galleries here:

http://www.jtcapturethemoment.com/gallery/3064958_SzAT2#497776656_meu4g

and

http://www.jtcapturethemoment.com/gallery/4371802_ozn2D#497806590_72ayj

I have always used the following settings: auto sort - by date taken, and sort direction - 99-1 Z-A, and it always worked fine for me. After I uploaded newer photos they would always show correctly in the beginning of the gallery. When I uploaded some shots to these two galleries they were placed at the end of the gallery after all the older photos. I could change the auto sort to "by date uploaded" and it will resolve it but why would this feature not recognize my photos now and sort the correct way?

I checked the photos and all have the correct dats of March 2009 which are all after/newer than the other photos in the galleries.

For now I changed the setting to auto sort by date uploaded but would rather have it the other way which used to work.

thanks

    Hi John,

auto sort date taken and sort order descending works just fine for me. I use it on my DailyPhotos without problems.

Give it another try. If you have any problems, don't change any settings so that we can take a look.

    Sebastian,

In the previously listed galleries I have reverted back to the way it should work with auto sort set to "by date taken" and sort order to "99-1 Z-A" and the problems still persist.

In the flower gallery the very last photo of a yellow flower should be the newest and most recently uploaded photo and then the orange poppies.

In the Napa winery gallery the last set of photos should be in the beginning with some of the other photos on the 1st page.

Again, I confirmed the file dates are correct on the metadata and should correspond with auto sort.

Any idea what the problem is?

    Thanks for looking into this.

I temporarily turned on camera info in your Flowers gallery. Take a look at the photo info of the last photo. It has no camera info at all.
Did you maybe accidentally use 'save for web'? All the metadata seems to be stripped out. That's why we can't sort it properly.

Interesting. I will re-look at them all and see why some may be missing the metadata. All were exported out of LR2 the same way and the same time so I'm not sure why some weren't done right.

Thanks for looking further into it.

My problem is with sorting Galleries...
When I click arrange on a gallery page I can position my new gallery where I want it and click save. When the screen refreshed back to the gallery page, my newly positioned gallery either is not moved or sometimes it appears moved but whe I log out and view the galleries, the gallery is back where it started.

I just noticed this problem today on my two SmugMug accounts.

http://trizones.smugmug.com/Events/451882 Trying to move the gallery "2009 April Swim Clinic @ Circle C" to just before the gallery "2009-May Swim Clinic at Nitro".

My other account http://www.marekphotos.smugmug.com/Youth%20Sports, I'm just trying to swap the galleries so the most recent is first. I've never had a problem with sorting galleries before.

I've cleared IE cache and restarted computer, deleted cookies, temp internet files and history. Any ideas???

Did you every figure out what was happening? I have a couple of galleries where the same thing has happened. I am using Picasa and the SmugMug add-on for uploading my photos. In one of my galleries, one of the photos (of a batch of 9) showed up w/o photo metadata. I uploaded this photo a second time, using the same tool and this time it showed up with metadata. In the other gallery, one of the photos has metadata but is not sorting correctly.

I've been having this exact problem for several weeks myself. Getting galleries to stay arranged is difficult/impossible. Any bugfix being worked on??

    Thanks.

    Hey Duck,

Can you post us a link to your site, and let us know something like, "I want Rocky Mountain Trip where it is, but Making Mud Pies should be just before it." We'll take a look!

I want to move the April 2009 concert to the first position.

I want to move the May 3rd game to the first position.

I'm using Firefox 2 on Mac Leopard

    Thanks!

    Hi Duck,

Have a look now. It seems to have worked first try for me, no issues. Can you doublecheck? If when visiting these, you're not seeing them in the first positions, you may need to clear your browser's cache. It might have the page remembered the way it useta wuz.

Geary, sorry for the late reply. For some reason I never got an email stating new replies were made in this thread.

Anyways in this particular instance I had edited in LR and then exported to iPhoto and then uploaded to smug on different days. For some reason the metadata captured was the date I uploaded into iPhoto and not kept as the date of photo taken. I had to go back and modify the original date/times and reupload to smug. Then it took and sorted correctly.

Hope this clarifies and still helps you.

Not sure what happened but sort appears to be working as of late. Thanks to whoever fixed this.
