I went out looking for Memorial Day shots yesterday afternoon, but everything was very quiet. Recent history (including two world wars) have eclipsed these older times and their vets, but at least around here, the memories remain.
If not now, when?

I just finished reading David McCullough's new book, "1776" and learned, to my surprise, that the Revolutionary War accounted fro 25,000 casualties - 1% of the population at the time. This was the highest % loss of population to war, except for the Civil War which accounted for over 600,000 lives.
