Mt. Si Reflection at Sunset

When I got home yesterday I had a B&H package waiting (incidentally, if B&H were a casino, I'd never have to pay for a room again). The contents were some new Singh-Ray GND filters (3-stop hard, 2-stop soft, and 3-stop reverse). I had the first two already, but after years of neglect, sand, scratches and other abuse, they needed to be replaced (I almost threw the old ones over the bridge I was shooting sunset at the other day I was so frustrated, but I didn't want to cause a freeway accident).

Anyway, the clouds looked like they might be promising so I drove 30 miles to Snoqualmie to test them out and hoped for the best. It's noticabley warmer outside now, and I saw the first swallows of the year. So I was already in a good mood, and was treated to a great sunset. It's amazing how quick the light changes.

    Absolutely beautiful Ron!clap.gif

#1 is just wonderful, especially in the full size. Is that a stitched pano or just a very wide lens? Love the subtle light and details!

    Ron.

Just gorgeous the colors, skies are to die for all are very nicely done.
Don't you just love Singh-Ray. I just picked up their new Vari-N-Duo (8 stop ND combined with Polarizer all in one filter) one of the best investments I have made.

Thanks - it's a stitch of 4-5 horizontal exposures. And I lied, that's not full size, it's about half full size (5,000 pixels wide, the original is like 10,500 or so).

Singh-Ray filters are great, I have no problems with them at all. I just wish they responded to my neglect and abuse better, just like everything else I own :D

Yeah, I noticed those dust spots too (later). There were a lot more before I started. I'm going to clean my sensor tonight.

These shots were all with the 2-stop soft GND. A 3-stop would have made the foreground lighter than the sky (2.5 stops probably would have made them equal, but 2 was good enough). I'm really looking forward to the reverse GND for sunset and sunrise shots.

Definitely #4! That one is absolutely stunning. This series really makes me want to return to this location and give it another try. Great work.

    Thanks Danny and Dan.

Danny - how are those cherry blooms looking at UW? I think I might up there early next week. Last year they were in bloom at this time but they might be delayed a little this year.

I'm not sure what the status is on those. They were already blooming this time last year but as you said, they seem to be a little late this year. I'm on Spring Break right now so I haven't been over there for the past week and a half. I'm guessing that they'll be in full bloom sometime in the next week or two.

Thanks! It's easy to be patient when shooting a spot that's both familiar (less likely to wonder if there might be something else better nearby as you know there isn't) and nearby (less pressure to get the shot perfect as you know you can return on a different day). Unlike when I was in Death Valley scrambling around all over the place :D

Beautiful! Sunset aren't always great, but when they are, we photographers should be out shooting them! Of course, you have to head out before knowing what the sunset is going to be like, but hey, no pain no gain. rolleyes1.gif
You were really lucky. The pano is great!
