Just a few critters from yesterday. Finally starting to warm up a bit. Suspect this first one is a true bug, but still not ID'd.

And this fly showed up on the side of the house late in the day to rest in the sunlight.

And I cut down a small birch tree, and these small flies were all over the cut ends within an hour.

    Good series Gary.
First thought re #1 was it looked remarkably like a pond skater but these aren't often found on cars?

Hi, I am a new to macro work and to digital shooting also. Could you post a pic of your equipment you used to make those photos. Can I see EXIF if it is'n your master secret :)

How far you where from the fly?
    Casual shooter...

Hey FMarek, I shoot ISO 100, 1/200, f8-f11, no secrets here. These shots were taken with a canon 100mm lens and a full set of kenko tubes (all 68mm). For some reason my PS wipes out the EXIF data, and I haven't figured out why yet. I use a diffused flash (an old speedlite 380EX) on a homemade bracket that hangs right at the end of the lens. The bracket came from Home Depot ($2.99) and an hour or so in the cellar. I haven't taken any pictures of it (don't have another camera). I was probably about 3-4 inches from the subjects when the shots were taken. Hope this helps.

I love these quite a bit. I think the composition could be a bit more interesting in the first one but that's a personal nitpick.

Maybe PS is wiping out your EXIF data because you're doing 'save for web'?
