People amaze me. I recently offered a 'pre-mother's day' special that CLEARLY stated the price was for an in-studio (well, actually an outdoor shoot because my 'studio' is a 6-acre farm) at my place - no travel involved for me.
I've had at LEAST four people respond to the special (great price!) and wonder if I can do a location shoot. Duh. What part of NO don't people get? or "sure, I'd love to do a location shoot for you. The cost will be $X" - and then they run away because it's not the ridiculously low 'special' price. Duh.:huh

Why don't you post your mailer or email so we can see if the wording was confusing? Did you really use the words "in-studio" or did you indicate it would be outdoors, in which case outdoor here, outdoor there, what's the diff?
