Bio update won't save

I haven't updated my Bio in a while, but I tried yesterday and today and I can't seem to get it updated. Here's the scoop:

I'm logged in.
On my hompage I click the Edit next to my Bio.
A text box pops up with the current Bio, I update it.
I click Save.
In the top left corner a box pops up that says "Saving Bio"
The text box looks like it is still open.
The "Saving Bio" box sits there forever...and I mean forever, I've left it for a half hour this way and no change.

I've tried logging out and then back on, rebooting my machine (Windows XP). I've looked at my processor statistics, the CPU is not very active, there is not much memory being used, the browser process says it is still running.

What gives?

Are you trying to use HTML?

What browser are you using? Can you edit album descriptions? Smuggie iloveyou.gif Firefox.

I just went and played around in mine and it's working fine for me running AVG (virus software), windows firewall, and IE 6 or Firefox.

I'm using IE6, the defacto browser standard of the world, so that isn't (or shouldn't) be the problem. I know some like Firefox, but we all must face reality in that Mr. Bill still owns cyber space.

Why yes, I am using HTML, I have :
    <h1>Mike's Photo Site</h1>
I've got tons of photos to upload from lots of trips....

but that has never been a problem before. Has something changed recently?

    Yep Still.

I've had the last "Saving Bio" sitting up for the last 15 minutes. I'm headed off to a meeting now, if it's still up when I get back I guess I need to contact support directly.

You're kidding, right? The minimum IE level I would consider using is IE7.

Nope. That wasn't the problem. I never had the <html></html> before and it worked fine. I just tried to take out all html and I'm still hung up waiting for the "Saving Bio" to complete.

This may be some kind of new firewall problem. I'm doing this from my work site and this is probably the problem. But I'm still confused since I just edited a gallery description just fine, it also had some kind of box pop up saying "Saving..." on the top left, but it went away in 1/2 second and everything was fine, the description was changed.

More likely this must be something having to do with the way the home page is updated differently than the galleries since I also just tried to change a gallery discription from the home page and it popped up with a "Saving Album Desc." pop up box on the top left and it now is hung with the pop up box open and description text box open and it is not updating either.

What strange magic are the home page updates using that the gallery updates are not?

    Another tidbit to help debug
I found that I could go to my Control Panel -> Account Settings -> Bio:Change and I could update the Bio....but I still can't update it from my homepage, it still hangs with "Saving Bio".

I also found out that I can go to a Gallery and edit the description there, but I can't edit it from my homepage, in that case it hangs as well with a "Saving Album Desc."

Also it seems that I cannot edit a Gallery title from the homepage, it hangs with "Saving Album Title".

It seems the workaround is to never edit anything directly from the homepage. I can deal with this, but my question now is, why am I "special" in that my homepage editing seams to hang? What is it you do different when saving something from a homepage? And can you stop doing it?

Should we just move this to a bug report or maybe leave it here for an FYI and workaround for any others with this problem?

    Thanks

Must be a firewall spam/surfing filter incompatibility
    I'll tell you tommorrow...

Well everything seems to work from home. It seems that there is something happening during the save procedure, only on the homepage, that refuses to finish because of some sort of firewall or spam/surfing filter that is on at work.

I'm not able to turn off the filters at work, but it is darn curious that this problem only occurs on the homepage. It makes me believe there is some final task that is being done on the homepage updates that is not being done on other pages updates. Are you trying to query something of the browser that might make it look like an attack or redirection?

You might want to take a quick look to see if this can be found and fixed easily, or if you've had other complaints about this, but if not I guess I'm going to have to deal with my ultra protective environment.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
The homepage is using ajax (background networking) to give a better UI experience and not have to reload the page. The other places are using traditional HTML posts, so it is conceivable that the homepage technique is being blocked at work while the traditional technique is not. It could also be browser security settings that are different at work.
