Recommended file format for best prints

I've been doing a lot of research before even adding my prints for my own testing prints. At home I have a Canon IPF5000 and I work on my photos from raw in Lightroom, in depth retouching in Photoshop with .psd files usually and then print from .jpg files with good results. Most of my prints have been relatively small though, 11x14 or smaller.

What is the recommended file format for getting great prints? I read the help and it did discuss resolution, profiles and replacing FPOs with hi-res files but I'd like to upload the final images for the fine art section so I don't have to hold orders. Although I plan to use the replacement suggestion for client shoots.

Any insight appreciated.

Thanks,
Beth

JPG, sharpened, properly exposed, and color corrected would be best. Full res, don't downsize or change the dimensions.

Andy gave you the criteria for SmugMug.

I have an ipf5000 and primarily work with, and print from 16 bit .psd files. The ipf5000 can use the 16 bit files. Why not take advantage of that?

I skipped a couple of steps in my process actually, a bit frazzled with all of this new territory. I print from .psd files and then was converting to .jpg files (save for web) to upload to flickr so they were really small, but I knew that probably wouldn't be optimal for printing purposes.
