Bee flies

Seeing more bee flies in the garden now. The first one a female was taking absolutely no notice of the male bee fly doing it's terrotorial hover display over the top of a forsythia bush. When flying these things look a bit ungainly as they use their rear legs trailing behind as rudders but they are accomplished fliers. Several times the male was disturbed by another male bee fly and spent a few minutes in a high speed dog-fight.

I knew, of course, that trees and plants had roots, stems, bark, branches and foliage that reached up toward the light. But I was coming to realize that the real magician was light itself.
