Wow, this turned out great. It's very natural looking - especially for an HDR. The sunburst is a good touch.

One thing I see that might need fixing are the couple of blue spots on the trees toward the top of the frame. What's that from?

I've long wanted to hike and shoot in this place! I love the star. Was that the 17-40 lens?

While the foreground is great (love the details in the moss) the background sky is too dark for my eyes to believe it fully. But this is a really tricky lighting situation. Do you have any more from the trip?

Thanks- I try to keep a real look even if using HDR. i do not like the commonly posted HDR look ne_nau.gif

I am not sure where the blue spots come from. Maybe they are a lens flare or water spots (it snowed on us several times this day)- or they are something that appeared in the HDR program. They bother me too as does the sky.

Thanks Schoo- we didn't get to hike this place. It was a very brief stop and then we booked it back to Ruby Beach for sunset. This was shot with a Zuiko 14-54mm F2.8 (I shoot Olympus).

As mentioned above- I do not like the sky either but it was a crappy sky. Overcast with snow showers and for a brief time the sun peaked through while we were driving to and from Ho.

RAW Images this was created from:
    505832143_9CEJW-M.jpg

    505831790_zEm3q-M.jpg

You can see the crappy sky and the blue spots in these.

I agree with Schmoo, the shot falls apart in the sky/trees area. I would prefer either of the original RAW files (processed) over this combination of the two.

I wouldn't process just one of the RAW files. I think the high dynamic range is what really makes this shot stand out. Maybe it would be better to process the darker file in such a way that would bring down the brightness of the sky before blending it with the overexposed image. This way you would have a slightly lighter sky, with the trees and everything else looking as they did in your original post. It's definitely possible to make this work.

Oh and about the blue spots. If you have Photoshop, those can be fixed in a matter of a minute or two. Not a big issue... I think it would really be worth reprocessing this to make it right.

Awesome comp and I love the diffraction star!

One minor thing though... it's the Hoh Rainforest. The Ho Rainforest, though pronounced the same, is located in another part of the state much closer to Seattle lol3.gif

    (But seriously folks...)

Love the lighting and the detail in the foreground of the HDR. Agreed, the sky looks a little off. I'm wondering if you have a little movement at the treetop level between the two shots and you are getting a blur in the HDR treatment.

I also agree with Schmoo, I would like to see more.

Thanks- well at least I continuously get good comps :D. Yeah I realized they were two different ones but ne_nau.gif oh well. Hoh or Ho what is a consonant. rolleyes1.gif

Thanks- yeah the sky is killing me. I went backed to try and rework this, rework the originals, and just not feeling it. There is no movement in the trees the issues are mixed lighting from snow showers and the spots are refractions of light from water spots 11doh.gif

Here is another shot though from Quinalt Rain Forest just a 40 minutes or so South of this one.

    Aaron,

The highlights usually come out too dark from Photomatix, in both HDR and exposure blendingne_nau.gif I typically take a separate exposure for the highlights and after dropping it over the blended file from Photomatix, paint in just enough of the real highlights to make it believable. This also gets rid of most the halos from the blended files where leaves and branches move.

Sweet!! Great colors and composition (yeah, I'm a broken record). I was in ONP this weekend and it was sunny the whole time, which meant forest shots were out of the question (did make for some good beach shots though mwink.gif). Glad you made the trip to the peninsula, you got some great shots out of it.

Yeap- I am pretty happy with that part of the trip. That is actually where I got the most shots worth keeping.

rolleyes1.gif Look forward to seeing your beach shots. rolleyes1.gif
