I'm interested in feedback, particular as to it's longevity. I've heard it's as good as the Nikon version, I'm just wondering if it's as durable.
I've used the Canon mount version a good bit. That lens drove me crazy
The images were alright, but not impressive. The focus hunting was its downfall. Even in moderately low light levels that thing would hunt back and forth for focus lock.
Maybe it was just a bad copy.
Can't speak as to the longevity of the lens. For me, it was a short lived affair

I can do the comparison for you against the Canon 24-70/2.8L and I'll tell you, there is a serious difference in build quality. I fully suspect the same against the Nikon version.
If longevity and durability are important to you, spend the extra bucks.
