Sometimes I wish I could just explain things over the phone to you guys, but here goes...

In this gallery...

Here is what I did 1st....

(Using Windows XP Pro sp3)

I set up the gallery and pricing in Firefox (v3.0.8). Everything is fine.

Then to check things, I open IE (v6.0.29) and act like a customer. I choose a photo and add it to my cart, then I go to checkout, and everything is as it should be. My price is as it should be too.

But then the weirdness takes place when I decide to empty my cart without making a purchase and go back to browse photos. I pick another photo and add it to my cart, and go to checkout. Now when I get to check out - The pricing has changed to the Smugmug default and I can purchase the photo with no profit going to "me". I can purchase a 4x6 for $0.21 etc etc.

I wonder how long this has been going on.

I wonder how many of my customers have noticed this and have been purchasing photos that are, to me, free. I get nothing.

This is a serious issue.

Thanks for jumping on it. If you need to talk to me my number is (deleted).

At a guess, when you saw the pricing as Smugmug default, you were logged in. And when you saw the pricing at the values you set, you were logged out.

(From memory, smugmug allows the site owner to purchase prints at the default pricing.)

    A very important issue..

Why are you selling 3:2 ratio images and not allowing 8x12 sizes and other 3:2 sizes? You only allow 4x6?? The images can't fit on anything but a 3:2 ratio.

Please price out 3:2 ratio sizes asap to avoid customer sat issues down the road, thanks!

I may have figured it out...

When I opened IE to purchase photos, I made sure I was not logged in. "Visitor View"

At some point in the purchase process, I was being automatically logged into "Owner View"

This is when the price change took effect.

I still can't figure out how I get logged in, headscratch.gif but everything should be normal from a customer view. :D

Sorry to bother you. I sure scared myself :yikes

    Andy,

In this particular gallery, I have created photos with specific aspect ratios so no cropping is required in check out. I did this because I have text close to the borders and did not want it cropped off.

    The gallery description states...

PHOTOS IN THIS GALLERY ARE FORMATTED FOR A SPECIFIC SIZE.
Choose size you wish to purchase by looking at the file name below the photo.
Choose the same size photo in checkout and your photo is sized automatically and no further cropping is needed.

If you had choosen the 8x10 size you would see it fits the 8x10 crop in check-out perfectly.

I could have created one photo with a large border, but then the borders become unequal depending on what size you choose.

If you think this is too complex for my customers, let me know what you think is best. (Andy knows all )

    Hello Eddie,

See your image with an 8x10 crop applied:

This will result in an unhappy customer. This is a 3:2 image. Let the customers choose the crop in the cart, you can review with proof delay. Don't rely on the customer to read the caption, they won't.
