Where is a good spot to capture Time Square?

I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me if there is a good vantage point to capture Times Square. I noticed there are lots of "steel barriers" along the pavement which would not look nice in a photo. This is what I'm talking about:



Or is there a good high ground we can go to without paying a bomb, like checking into an expensive hotel?
