Hi,
I'm new to smugmug and I've got a pro account (htuomola.smugmug.com). At the moment I'm trying to customize the site (heavily) to integrate it to my other site. My problem is that during the customization, when I click Update, it quite often leads me to the Login-form. After logging in it goes back to the customization page but of course all my latest changes were not saved. Any ideas on what might be the problem?

Normally you'd login a 2nd time to get to the customizing page. Please list the exact steps you're using to get to the customizing page?

Yeah ok, so I've got the "remember me" box ticked so I didn't log in to smugmug itself. Here's what I do:
    1. open my homepage (htuomola.smugmug.com)
    2. Click control panel
    3. Log in (I think the login is at this point, now as I've got the session open I couldn't check)
    4. click on Customize / site-wide customization
    5. Update some CSS etc. and click update. I might spend some minutes at this page but not so long that session would expire.
    6. a) I am returned to the customization page with message "customizations updated" (ok) OR
    b) I'm directed to login page and after logging in redirected to customization page, changes have been lost

Option b) occurrs annoyingly often, I'd say 50% of the time.

    OK Can you
    1. clear your SmugMug Cookies in Firefox
    2. go here: http://htuomola.smugmug.com/
    3. Click 'login'
    4. Click Control pane from your homepage
    5. Click the customize tab, then sitewide customizing
    6. You should get another login (security measure)
    7. update customizing, click Save

Done, although I didn't get the 2nd login. This time there was no error either :)

edit: Uhm, and I also experience some "Waiting for reply from secure.smugmug.com" sessions when trying to update. However, if I try to ping the address at the same time it works fine, so the internet connection should be fine.

Had a similar experience last night.
I too went through some repeated login weirdness last night, well, OK all the way through until 9am this moring....hehehehe...what I can I say, new SM account and am really amazed at the system you have setup for us.

Anyway, I went through several periods where I would have to login again to do something, and yes, I think it was for site wide editing. I also do not sense this was the only time.

My suspicion was sure the the large number of browser sessions I had open while testing and reading tutorials and you name it, the cookies became a bit jumbled. Or in fact they just timed out. Not sure about the timeout though as i was still logged in 7hrs after I went to sleep last night and left it logged in my axi-dent.

Currently I am using IE8, FF & Opera. The later two with whatever the most current update versions may be. During testing I only logged in via IE8 and used the other two so I could have "user" views of the changes as I made them. One thing I did do in IE8 was toggle between normal and "compatibility" modes. Perhaps, in my case, that could have been an issue? I know IE8 is a tad flaky here and there so I would not be surprised if that was at the root of my issue.

Just passing that info along because I did experience something similar on more than one occasion last evening through this AM when sane people were just smacking the snooze button. mwink.gif

The waiting for reply message is normal. Our servers have to process what you just submitted. That can take a few seconds.

If you check the 'remember me' checkbox on the login page, we won't log you out at all, as long as the cookies don't expire (not sure about the exact time, but it's many weeks).

The login page then only comes up for pages where we need you to re-authentificate yourself, which is mostly control panel and site-wide customizations.

Keep in mind that Opera is not one of our supported browsers. We fully support IE6, 7, 8 and FF2, 3 and on Mac Safari 2, 3 and FF2, 3.
