Google Sitemap and SM (python script)?

Hi Rutt and all the other Python guys,

I just read about a new google feature in their blog. It's called Sitemaps and allows webmasters to inform google about changes of their homepage via a python-script.
I wonder if we could use it (maybe with little modifications) to inform google about our SM pages. I thought of putting it on my webhost, because SM hasn't any python-support.
Is there a chance of doing this or does it work only when the script is on the same webspace as the content? :scratch

Thanks for looking into it,
Sebastian
