I have never work with a digital to mount flash.

The main thing is practice and read your manual......

I am confused as to what you mean exactly.......as for tips on learing to use.......if your doing portraits and such.....then I would set up in Aperture Priority and the flash set to TTL and run a test at say 10' and various apertures and then again at 5' and then again at 20' for large groups.....do this with straitght flash and then do it again with a diffuser on it......get a flash bracket thatthe camera rotates (not the flash) so that the flash is off the camera....you'll also need an off camera cord(cable) for your camera to operate the flash on the bracket.....I currently use a short coiled 3' off camera cord and it works great.....if I need for the flash to go farther away....then I use wireless triggers........
