Hi everyone!

I have an old D50 with an 18-135mm lens.

The D50 sometimes has locked up on me (i think because of dirty battery contacts) so I don't really trust it anymore.

The 18-135mm lens is great.. but I would much rather bring something like teh 18-200mm with VR.

I was thinking about renting the D90 and keeping the 18-135

OR

Bringing the D50 and renting the 18-200mm VR

what do you think?

Renting both would be a little crazy.. $300...

Where is the cheapest and best place to rent?:dunno:lust

Since you said, "I don't really trust it anymore", referring to the D50, it would not make much sense to bring it. You need to bring tools you can trust.

Renting both camera and lens could make sense depending upon the importance and cost of the trip. Having the right tools could make all the difference between success and disappointment.

Check out our "Where to Rent" thread for suggestions about vendors.

You may want a particular combination of features, products and services so the "cheapest" may not always be the "best value".

Yea, I think i will rent the D90.. it has such great ISO i wont need the VR really.. and plus its mostly just pictures while walking around english towns and castles.

What sort of memory card should I get for the D90? I will take tons of pictures, probably 2,000 !

The D90 uses SD cards so the cards you have for the D50 are no use with the D90. The number of cards will depend on whether you shoot RAW or JPG and what compression and resolution (if JPG).

You might also need to purchase a few batteries to cover 2,000 images. If you are going to England also make sure you have adapters to match the British electrical system to the charger. The rental house may be able to help.

I think you mean to say CF cards for the D90? the D50 uses SD.

Right you are Leah. thumb.gif They both use SD format cards.

Snarcher, forget what I said about cards about in that the SD cards you have should work fine in the D90, they will just fill up faster.

Given your statement about thinking it is dirty battery contacts, the first place to start is to clean those contacts on both the batteries and in the camera, test and see if it still locks.
