I had seen neat photos of these spiders on the internet so I knew where to look for them. While examining the wild sunflowers I caught a glimpse of a movement out of the corner of my eye and saw one! It had caught a metallic sweat bee.
The spider began to descend the flower with it's prey either to avoid me or to find a safer place to enjoy it's meal. Periodically it would stop to cross a leaf or move along the flower stalk. I moved under the stalk gently holding it up to get a better angle taking photos one-handed until the spider and prey eventually disappeared amongst the leaf litter.

It blends in beautifully with the yellow flower, clever camouflage.

I read the spider is normally pale brown but can change color on a yellow flower.

I felt sorry for the bee as well. Why couldn't the spider pick on wasps or flies instead?
