Color Difference: CS4 vs SmugMug

I'm the process of processing a pile of RAW images (Nikon NEF) in Photoshop CS4. Trying to get through them very quickly, I'm using the Auto Color setting in CS4.

On my monitor, the color looks all washed out, very drab. When I post the photos to SmugMug, they look just fine.

Why the difference?

Should I get a colorimeter (SpyderPro 3?) to calibrate the monitor? Does SmugMug apply any auto color correction to posted images? (I know they do it for printed images.)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Have you checked all your color settings in CS4? Sounds like you just don't have it set up correctly. Photoshop can display tons of different color profiles, and you are probably using the wrong one.
