This works. To be picky, I think you have focus on the brick wall in back and not her face.
The elements are very interesting and I had to think about how I might have changed the composition, not because there is anything wrong with it, but because it was fun to think about how it might be changed and what it would look like.
There is much to be liked in it as it is. It is certainly noirish, as well as a little oirish of course!
Following the precedence of rutt, my mind has also been stirred, and if I may I'd like to think out loud -
an interesting viewpoint would be a couple of steps to the right and on your knees, the camera angled up towards the top left corner, asymmetrical and a little skewed
the plastic pipes don't play the game, clone them out
remove the flowerpot and put down real detritus
grunge the walls hard
burn the top couple steps
extract all you can from that deep shaft of light spotting her
a little fill flash on the face, shoulders and those(*!), ah, bosoms:whew
O phew... I am glad to see you are still shooting without the challenge incentive.
Love this, especially her expression and eyes. She has that startled "doe eyed" look that is so adorable. Dorthy... Auntie Em... that sort of thing. What a fun model!
Oh, goodness, thank you for all the kind words! And for the critiques.
I did try to reposition myself (low, high, left, right), but I was triggering my SB800 with my pop-up flash (since I'm still PW- and Radiopopper-less), and if I moved one step to the left or right, or kneeled, my SB800 wouldn't pop. Frustrating to say the least.
Heather: this model had the most amazing, huge eyes! It was quite startling to see after she had applied her makeup and removed her glasses.
Very noir! My only thought might be to clone out those two PVC drainpipes - somehow they bring us back to the new millenium instead of the 1940s. Hardly a dealbreaker, but just a thought...
I LOVE what you get out of these themed shoots of yours clap
Can't please everyone, eh? My original intent was to take the pipes out because they were bright white (I burned them in a ton) and drove me nuts. I got lazy and talked myself into keeping them because I'd burned them enough so they subtly pointed to the model. But I still hate the PVC. If they were metal pipes, I may have kept them in, but I'm kind'a diggin' this sans pipe.
And I like that random pot, so it stays! I've brought in as much fill as I like to highlight her face and assets (they're definitely brighter than the first version).
'Course, finicky as I am, I may redo it all again tomorrow.
Gawd struth!
Pipes "pointing"????. The nuances of PVC versus metal???? Blushing caresses of fill flash on certain curvy parts of the anotomy????...
Yous all reminiscent of that cerebrally precious artsy-*artsy poster with the big words and the boring theories of aesthetics, what's his name...?:D
Don't yous know nuttin'?! Noir is not subtle, guys, it's the shadow of the subtlety of color, it's win or lose, live or die, love or loneliness, black and white...! Noir glares, white cuts black, black cuts white, it's a battlefield, the living and the dead are covered with the white sheets under a streetlight at the bottom of a black alley...

So it made me think, which is really good.

EXACTLY. It wasn't their presence that bothered me, but their plastic-ness.
I love this photo, Kerry, avec ou sans pipes. Great job!
