I've been reading about resolution (not to change) and cropping (don't crop) but don't quite understand compression. First it says this: You can pick image resize and set the maximum number of pixels on a side to 1500 if you plan to make enlargements up to 10x15 inches. But I've got the option of going much bigger than that for customers so that wouldn't work, right?

The other thing it says is to use Lightroom or Photoshop10 or something like that. Can't find it now! I have PSE6. Which compression do I use and how?

Don't use any in PSE 6 if you don't need to. The only reason is to make uploading faster.
