Portraits for an Author

I have been contacted by a local author who wants some lifestyle type portraits done for his webspaces and possible to be included as a book jacket portrait. (about the author type photo)

While I can probably feel my way along well enough for pricing on the electronic versions I have no clue what I am getting into with the book jacket portrait.

How much is fair and reasonable for us both?

How is it managed?...For instance if I offer pricing for a few thousand copies and then He decides to print more later.....how am I made aware of that. Do I even charge on a structure like that?

If anyone has experience of this type I am all ears.

as long as he is not outright selling the pics then I would charge a set fee ....based on what I feel I would want to pay for the same product.......look at it this way.......the portraits are not exactly being used to sell but rather give a look inside of or into the life of the author......a lot of authors use a very business like portrait while a lot (thew ones i read) use portraits of them doing what they love ....hunting.... fishing,,,,,,,,so on......or they are dress as if they were coming or going on such an outing........it is simply a way for the audience to get to know the author...........
