I gotta get this off of my chest, because it really ticked me off...:splat

I ended up working most of the day, and afterwords decided to take a trip out to my parent's ranch to see what kind of shots I could get as the sun set. I got out there, went up the hill overlooking the ranch, and looked for a good spot.

I found a spot, started to setup my tripod, threw the wide-angle on, and set the camera on the tripod. There was a storm coming in from the south, and with the sun starting to set, I was getting some very cool lighting.

I turn on the camera, and when it boots, the screen says "NO CF CARD." I instantly recall the last place I saw my CF cards...sitting in the card reader attached to my computer...at home...over an hour away...:doh

So I sat back, and enjoyed the light show. Between the sun setting and the lightning coming out of the clouds, I could have gotten some really good shots. Needless to say I was very angry at myself. At least it wasn't a wedding or anything important...

:bash

Please someone tell me I'm not the only one who has ever forgotten a memory card!

I went down to the church I'm getting married in next June and was going to shoot a bunch of photos inside to show my fiance (our homes are 900 miles apart--- met him at college)... when, after talking the pastor for 45 minutes, he gives me the go ahead to take my shots...

AND I'D FORGOTTEN THE BATTERY THAT I HAD CHARGED THE NIGHT BEFORE.

Thankfully the church is like 2 miles from my house, so it was a quick drive home and back and then I shot away, but still, I felt like an idiot, so I can feel for the forgetting your memory card...

Unfortunately, we've had this thread before. Why? Because many of us have been in the same position. :uhoh

Sorry to hear that, I double check my things before I leave the house. I do that because I went on a shoot once & left my camera at home! rolleyes1.gif

The good news Thomas, is that I never did it a second time ...:D

Once was enough ... (but it still sucked)

    Well, I guess
I'll have to say no it hasn't.

    How come, you might ask?

I have a spare battery in my purse.

I have not one, but two holders attached to the camera. One holder is for CF cards and the other is for memory sticks.

I charge the battery in the camera. (and the spare is in the purse).

When I remove a CF card (guess there is some value in not having just one large one, after all) it goes into the carry case (attached to the camera). The only time the cards are out of the case is when they sit in front of my keyboard while I offload them. But there would still be one in the camera.

I'm almost obsessive compulsive about my cards, sticks, batteries and camera -- the ONLY thing I'm that way about I might add -- and my car keys which get clipped to my purse.

One neat thing about my camera is that if I fill up a card, I can switch to the stick and keep on shooting until I get a break and can switch out cards.

But, there are other things in life when I do things like that, like forget to set the VCR for an important show, or forget to check the tape and it was too full and I don't get the show.

The only other thing I tend to be obsessive compulsive about is having gas in the car. Earthquake preparedness, you know mwink.gif

But, I feel your pain! And that's why I'm the way I am about my camera! I rarely, and I do mean rarely, leave the house without my camera.

While I know you enjoyed the sunset, I know exactly how I'd feel if I didn't have or couldn't use my camera! Sorry it had to happen.

It will never happen to you again. Why? 'Cause you only lock your keys in your car once.

Anyone who says "never" or "always" has not lived long enough!

IMO, anyway. And I am obsessive re my camera, albeit I use my backpack, not attachments.

However................... over time, and one time, I almost forgot the camera, I had the bag, though.

I have forgotten almost everything over time. My keys more than once, dead batteries, more than once. Though each time is grueling, miserable, etc.

I am obsessive not only about my camera, but having my keys in my hand before I lock my car.
We hope to live long enough.............

Sorry about the storm/sunset. Yes, I did that, too. Though, with the CF card, I had not gotten there, yet, we came back home and got it. And I have multiples, And I keep them in a case, And I always check, set up my camera, before I leave home, or usually, or I did, or something.

I have a memory of my camera not telling me there was no CF card and shooting many gbs, which should have told me right there that something was wrong. I just thought of that.

Yes, a wedding, etc, would be terrible. JUST TERRIBLE. With the baptisms, I am obsessive about taking so many shots I have frowns on at least a few faces from the excessive photography. However, I have had blinkers, blurs, all sorts of things. I have also had only one usable shot, out of many. Thank god, so far, for that ONE shot.

And, I look for a useable one Before I go to my car, I shoot, at their request, before the baptism. I then sit in the car and go over them again. I usually look at the eyes in close up on the LCD. But my husband will drive off, he never messes up, see he just sends his stuff to the studio lab, and they do the work, he would not know if he messed up, unless it were an actual sitting.

I cover myself by saying that I am going to check them and come back if I don't have what I need. The Priest, not the good father, a new one, he glared at me. But I did come back once. It was not a problem for the priest, as he saw..........i waited til after the baptism and quietly slipped back in.

I also had my flash not work. Thank dog for the always, usually, present monopod. and the open door with daylight, etc. That was a good shot, too, but I would not like to rely on no flash in those situations.

    ginger

(When I can't shoot, like you couldn't, and it is for my pleasure, or the shots I lost from no CF card, for my pleasure, I do it again, and sigh loudly. I have also sat there and watched, difficult as that is.) There is no real reshoot, for our pleasure. There is another time, different shots. IMO
After all is said and done, it is the sweet tea.

And last saturday, the same happened to me. Left the SD card for my Leica Digilux in the card reader. First time, and I'm sure it won't be the last.
enjoy being here while getting there
