I have the stupid question of the day I believe. I got a lexar flashcard reader as a gift. I plug it into my firewire port and put a card in. The reader lights up like its ready to do all sorts of cool things. I check the 1394 connection and it shows 400mbs. All is well....except silly me doesnt know how to access the data? I thought when I got it it would be like usb in that one of the drives on the pc would open up. For my computer for exampe when I put in a flash drive J: opens. But nothing happens. Is that normal and its elsewhere? Is there something wrong? Am I an idiot? 2 out of 3? :rofl

I tried accessing it through Lightroom as well to see if it recognized it but nothing. Thanks for any help on this. I have been reading Wikis and tech sites til im sick of it.

Just an update. I ended up contacting live support. There isnt a driver to download for this reader surprisingly enough. And after the 'tech' ran me through troubleshooting they declared the reader to be at fault. So at least I can stop pulling my hair out. Art thank you for your time and assistance.

There is no FireWire driver on the Lexar page, and that is as it should be. The drivers for simple FireWire volumes are built into the recent versions of Windows and Mac OS X both, just like USB. In fact, the Lexar page charts show that few products, if any, need a driver under current operating systems. If there are no special features, it's no surprise that no driver comes with it. Plug 'n' play, drag and drop.

Lexar does have top notch customer service and can normally check things out over the phone / internet.

I should have looked closer at their driver list. even tho these items are plug/play and do not require drivers Ihave found instances I have ahd to go to the mfg'ers website and get drivers even tho Win XP said it ahd the best already in use and by doing such fixed whatever was making it not operate correctly.

Very glad taht an exchange of product will fix yor prob.
