These pics are from Sangla Valley, Chitkul, a little and the last village at the end of the Old Hindustan Tibet silk route and Kalpa, a small town about 50kms from the former
Normally there should be a lot more snow in Mid March, but due to winter drought, conditions were dire
Sunlight is really strong at this altitude
Thankfully there was little haze, and it got worse later
This narrow road is perpetual landslide zone
One one side is the cliff, hanging like damocles sword over you and on the other side is a 2000 foot drop. I did not have the courage to go further to take the picture. One look can give you vertigo
In midday, the snow shines
This is the valley, just 1800mts(6000ft) above seal level,. the river is Sutlej, and the road is National highway 22. Sangla and Chitkul lie 20 and 50kms respectively on a offshoot.
You can get off the road and try some automobile photography
Finally on the Sangla road
Another pic
Finally at Chitkul, near the end of the road
One of my favorite shots
This pic reminded me of Yosemite. Halfway around the world, yet so similar.
To get this shot I went off the road on a narrow side trail. Had to use 4WD Low here, it was so steep and slippery
We did not stay at Chitkul(water shortage) but at Kalpa.
The mountains were enveloped in haze in the evening
A lone prayer flag
The Village, and the mountains enveloped in Haze
Normally morning see departure of haze, however no such luck this time
Hope you enjoyed the series!
