First one of these guys I've ever seen even though I've lived up here for quite a while now. Hawk owls get there name due to there body posture being more angular like a hawk when perched, they hunt in the daytime, and they call like a hawk rather than hooting. The only thing owl-like about them is the face and eyes.
This was the first time I broke out a new 1.7x TC that I got this winter. Needed it as this guy was a ways off. During PP I did notice some chromatic abberation in high contrast areas with the 1.7 that I've never noticed using the 1.4 TC.
Nikon D300 w/200-400VR and 1.7x TC
I tried to get closer and he/she got pissed...

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
