Some Belgian Baseball

Yes, we have a baseball competition in Belgium. :huh Of course not of the level as it is in the US :D

In my village (population 3600) we have the "Briqville Sluggers". A friend of mine is coach of one of the teams and I promised to come and take some pictures someday. Last sunday the "cadets" (13-15 year olds) played at home against the "Louvain La Neuve Phoenix"

I had to shoot over and through a fence (next time I'll take a small stepladder with me) The sun was shining, but there was some haze.

Camera was the EOS 1D Mk III with the 28-300L IS lens. I just put the iso, first at 200, later at 400, and had everything else done by the camera. I think I should have gone higher with the iso to get shorter shutter speeds (were now between 1/400 and 1/640) Maybe changing to the 70-200L 2.8 IS would also be better?

Tips for my next shoot would be welcome (next saturday I promised to shoot the 11-12 year olds and on sunday the 8-10 year olds)

Now some pics:

    These are pretty good!
I think using the f2.8 lens will make a big difference. Obviously it will help blur the background AND help keep your shutter speeds high. I've been shooting softball (our girls here in the US tend to play softball) using Aperture priority mode and setting the ISO at the minimum value that will keep the shutter speed high enough. I try to keep it up over 1/800 or so.

    Thanks to both

Weather forecast for next weekend is sunny with clouds. I think I will use the 70-200 2.8 this time.
I was already thinking in the direction of using aperture priority mode and increasing iso.
