8yo princess and her tough brother (8 photos)
I haven't posted in a while, and I've been more of a lurker than a contributor lately, but I sure would appreciate some C&C on these. These are the children of a good friend of mine...she just turned 8 and he's 9. They've always been two of the cutest kids I know! We did a super fast, rather informal shoot on Sunday. I was nervous and rusty, which is how I usually feel, I s'pose! :roflShe was a doll to work with...would pose on her own and listen to any direction. The handsome young man, however, was one tough cookie! Totally uninterested and most of his expressions were somewhere between boredom and...well...just bad. Oh well, we were really just after one decent shot of each.
The whole set was shot with the Canon 40D, 85 1.8, on-board external flash here and there.

2 - lots of warm backlighting here...I kinda liked the golden glow, but maybe it's a bit much?

7 - I like this little chair, but I think I may paint it a darker color so it doesn't compete with skin tones in photos.
8 - He pulled a cell phone out of his pocket and pretended to check for messages. I acted over-the-top surprised, knowing his parents would not allow him to have a real cell phone...and my reaction brought out a little smirk of a smile (and an admittance that it was not a working phone)! This lighting is flat. It's not blown, but while I do go for bright faces, maybe this is too much. Or maybe it's just too flat. I was so apprehensive about getting a reasonable shot of him that I wasn't thinking about where my natural light was. These kids only live 5 minutes away...I think I'll ask to practice, at least with the girl, more often!
