My roommate needed some pictures done before his graduation, so we went out and took some of him today. I'm still not the best at posing people because I hardly ever do shoots like this - I mostly do weddings. I'd like some suggestions on what I could do better with posing as well as the normal stuff. Here are a few of the better ones!

C&C welcome!

11. Not the best shot, but I wanted to get the NMSU in for one picture. Any suggestions on how this could have been taken better?

Well, he has a nice big smile, doesn't he? Posing is not my strong suit either, so I'm not much help there.
I think my fave is #9...the light, the background and the bridge all work for me here.
#1 is a nice headshot, but his skin tones match the background. I wonder if the brick could be darkened a bit and if his face could be brightened a bit and a little cooler (it seems a touch warm), how that might look.
I like the perspective and serious expression in #6, but I'm not fond of the railing through his head.
#2 and #4 are growing on me. 4 seems a completely different color than the rest. The color and light are a bit moodier and I would have liked to have seen a more serious pose/expression in that environment.

There's my jumbled up 2 cents! I'm bettin' he likes these quite a lot! thumb.gif

they are techincally okay. He seems very stiff though. You realize that he the EXACT same smile in every shot except #6?

I think it really just depends on what you were trying to achieve here. If he just wanted a couple shots for graduation, then I think the cap and gown pics are good. I would have had him maybe wear something different for the shot in the door opening. that is a cool setting, and I just think he looks out of place in a suit there. He looks a little uptight, in the suit. Maybe by wearing something he would wear everyday, he would have been more relaxed. Just an idea. I'm no pro, so take it with a grain salt. One question...is that NMSU New Mexico St.?

Sorry I can't help you with tips on making these better but I too am interested in ideas. My oldest daughter is graduating from UTA next month and wants me to take graduation pictures of her soon at the school. I am looking for creative college graduation photo ideas.
