For those of you that offer digital downloads what price range are you offering or finding that is working for you? I am new to all this and I'm looking at offering the small file size thanks for any help.

    DT,
It's hard to suggest a price for downloads as it depends a lot on many different variables like subject, intended audience, intended use, image quality, etc.

I generally offer a CD of all images from a show (I shoot horse shows, primarily) for $100, this includes a perpetual non-exclusive personal use license meaning that they can use the pictures forever for any non-commerical use they want.

For single photo downloads of shots from shows I charge $30 for personal use and $100 for commerical use, meaning advertising that horse for sale or advertising the trainer/barn or show. I feel that those are both inexpensive prices compared to others I've seen from equine photographers in my area.

At least you're not selling prints for $4. ;-)

Figure how many 4x6 or 5x7 the buyer can make with the 1MB file. (yeah, I know unlimited, but how many would they have to buy to break even, etc. ;-)
I use a 3x multiplier depending on the event, e.g., high school sports prints are $7-8 for 4x6 and the 1MB file sells for $15-20. You can check out vendors like MaxPreps.com to see what they are pricing at the national level for prep sports for comparison.

That said your business cost should be a factor in addition to the competitive market, e.g., I price high school football lower to reflect the larger market, more competition and two hours of game time, whereas something like kart racing or in your case, MC racing, I charge more since I'm usually spending all day out at the track and have a smaller group of buyers. I also figure a 2:1 or 3:1 post-production to shooting time ratio into the total effort.

    Hope that helps...

    Is this for personal use?
I am trying to post the link to personal and commercial use license but can't seem to find how.

The prices I referenced above are for Personal Use.

I use the following phrase/link to show the default SmugMug license in my Bio box, (which is getting way to busy.) ;-)

"Default licensing rights may be found by selecting the Downloads Tab from this link: Usage Licenses."

I wish we had FotoQuote rights-managed licensing like PhotoShelter has, since the Commercial License on SmugMug is pretty broad. I only use it for simple licensing, e.g., my Dressage galleries and even then I find I usually end up doing a separate license and fulfillment outside of SmugMug.
