As someone who has just started shooting Lacrosse, I'm blown away with your captures. Lacrosse on a sunny day is a bear to get the faces right because of the helmet shadow. Very nice!

That's where Lightroom comes in! With localized adjustments, you can raise exposure on faces under that helmet shadow. It's become a routine part of my PP workflow, usually exposing faces by nearly a full stop, and I believe that the adjustment is imperceptible to the casual viewer (and potential print purchaser). Lightroom is my all-everything software anyway, so this is very easy. I wouldn't be bothering with it if I had to round-trip out to Photoshop for dodging/burning.

Casual viewer yes, probably on the prints as well.

I do the same thing normally for raccoon eyes and occasional helmets. I know I can tell when pushing it much more than 1/2 stop, but at that point I am looking at full size as well.

Not sure about these though. Great pictures to be sure but I am thinking the faces might have been done in camera. Some at the expense, near expense, of some of the whites. Specifically looking at #4 where the shoes look blown out. Much rather have a blown shoe then dark faces though.

These are great. Love the colors and the sharpness. As one trying to learn, I've gotta ask (sorry if you've explained all of this before).

Can you explain a little more about your camera settings? Are you getting the D-lighting in a JPEG (in camera) or are you doing it in post with NX2?

Oh man I miss shooting Lax, especially men's!!!

anyways, great captures. I especially like the two running onto the field shots, I love the closeness of the crop, the great capture of the faces and the army player with the american flag and the duke players with the fog, it really bring you in as if you are on the sidelines at pregame!!!

    Great work!
